Jesús Alonso Olamendi holds a law degree from the Ibero-American University of México and a Master’s degree (LLM) in Legal and Political Theory from the University of York in the United Kingdom. He has also specialized in International Human Rights Law, History, and Criminal Law.
He served as an advisor to the Mexican Senate, promoting the creation of legislation on human rights and drug policy, with an emphasis on medical cannabis and harm reduction. He has been an alternate coordinator for the project of Consolidation of the Accusatory Criminal System in the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Mexico. As a consultant, he has advised several local governments in Mexico and Central America on security, justice, and human rights. He has been as General Director of the Institute for Training in Justice and Human Rights since 2021.
